As an good artist he will has a very acuteness perception of our society and he knows how to use an artistic way to deplict his point of view into his art work. An artist with a wonderful life with rich experience then his work must be more worthy for our attention and discussion.
My life experiences seem more different than other peers, I was the new generation growing up under the rapid changes of the Chinese society which brings the most valuable resources for me, I have seen more than any other changes. I was born in a very remote inland village where it was still keeping the ancient rural life. In my childhood we only see the outside world through the black and white television, and we only have one telephone in our village community center connected with the outside world. Although I was responsible for farming, feeding pigs and chicken, collecting firewood and other basic farm work, but my life is free, and my dream of the future and outside world is full of fantasy, I use the very simple painting material to depict my thought into some wonderful paintings, and the peacfully lifestyle in this village gave me the most instinctive inspiration.
Later my parents got jobs in the local town and I went to the local school for learing and then my life had changed, the parents let me into the art class to learn calligraphy and Chinese painting, where I also received a traditional Chinese Confucian and Taoist philosophy, these played a very important impact for shaping my personality and aesthetic sensibilities. Then I came to Hangzhou City which has thousand years history, it is also the seat of China Academy of Art(CAA) , where was my future college. I received a systematic education in oil painting from some private art studios owned by some professors from CAA. After studyed in CAA for a year I went to Beijing's Central Academy of Fine Arts to study Art for another year, then I came to London and studyed in Saint Martins.
During five years of living and studying in London I have traveled a lot of European countries, experience different cultures, I also participated and curated numerous exhibitions, these different experience make me more able to think independently and make my paintings more unique and have more personal language. After studyed in different art colleges for many years make my work more academic, but my different life experiences make me always want to assimilate new input and new perspectives conducive to my artistic creation which make my work full of Fantasy! It makes me like a College Heresy.
About the work
Since I came to London, I have immersed myself in a rich and varied exploration of painting, which has encompassed a diverse range of techniques and ideas. It includes figurative paintings, colourful abstractions, traditional Chinese paintings, subtle landscapes and history paintings.
Building on the delicate relationship between fine art and craft, my paintings contemplate different perspectives of desire. Much of my work reflects on historical and religion contexts, inspired by Tibetan art, religion art, and Byzantium art,
In some of the paintings, Figures are veiled, secreted and often isolated. Closer examination of the seductive surface reveals this concealed narrative. Behind the surfaces of my paintings hide a labyrinth of disparate and sometimes conflicting meanings, the real and the speculative. In my paintings where innocence has been banished, I want to express some hidden or forbidden pleasures; I am drawn to the intensification of desire that comes with secrecy and taboo, to create elusive and unsustainable suffering,
I fascinated with subversive narratives of desire is expressed across domestic objects of personal nostalgic importance. My imagery is culled from contemporary pornography, Tibetan art, traditional Chinese painting. I paint this subject matter into personal, intricate and pictorial systems and codes which introduce a sense of concealment. Such secrecy creates tension not just aesthetically but also sexually, suggesting senses of longing, disappointment, beauty and corruption.
